Current restrictions and issues in the NCS and ways to work around them

Moderator of this page: Hans Ungerechts [HU]

General recommendations

For heterodyne observations, follow the "demo" examples decribes in the paKo manual and provided in the Observing accounts. This includes pako scripts (*.pako) for standard setup and observations, as well as an example source catalog, demo.sou, and line catalog, demo.lin

For bolometer (pool) observations, consult the Pool Observing Wiki and in particular the updated Pool Cookbook.

The NCS at the 30m needs to support a huge variety of combinations of observing and switching modes and receiver and backend setups. Not all of these can be tested. The closer one stays to tested examples, the smaller is the risk of running into a previously unknown problem! If you find a problem, we will be grateful for specific information, ideally a pako script or a list of commands that produce the error.

Most (all?) features that are foreseen in the NCS, but not yet tested or available are flagged in the HELP information with <<TBD: ... >> or << ... >>.

Specific feedback on how to correct and improve the HELP and the manual is needed and welcome!
